Lucky arrived at the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS) in September 2015, after Stellenbosch Fire and Rescue Services saved her from an informal settlement fire in Cloetesville.
Lucky was severely injured and sustained burns across large parts of her body. Her chances of survival were slim, but due to the quick action of our firefighters and the generosity and care of the AWSS, she pulled through and is today living a life of great purpose.
Lucky underwent numerous surgeries, including a βface liftβ to open and close her eyes. Despite the many challenges and traumatic start to her life, she has had a momentous impact on thousands in and around Stellenbosch.
Today, she is officially recognized as the AWSS mascot. She does school visits and attends official events. Her story of hope and second chances has inspired many and provides motivation to the many volunteers who work in animal welfare.
