PRG sets high for school art exhibitions
Paul Roos Gymnasium and Investec have launched the See and Be Seen Art Exhibition and Auction which will run from 19 to 30 October 2021.
The inaugural See and Be Seen Art Exhibition and Auction is a fundraising event which forms part of the school’s 155-year celebrations and is especially significant considering the turbulent times we find ourselves in. Funds raised will be in aid of the Sponsor a Paul Rooser initiative, which provides financial relief to disadvantaged families in the Paul Roos school community.
“Investec believes that in a country as culturally diverse as South Africa, art has a way of breaking down barriers and bringing people together. Art reveals the stories and truths of people and their communities in ways that are truly authentic and meaningful. This initiative by Paul Roos Gymnasium and the Stellenbosch art community is a perfect example of this and we are proud to be part of it,” says Hugo Van Der Ahee of Investec.
The collaboration partners include SMAC Gallery, Strauss & Co Fine Art Auctioneers, Spier Arts Trust, Rupert Museum and Stellenbosch Visio in hosting this unique opportunity to showcase exciting emerging artists and successful established artists like Margaret Courtney-Clarke, Clare Menck, Gavin Rain and Strijdom van der Merwe.
In the spirit of community engagement, talented Paul Roos schoolboys engaged in a collaborative portrait exchange with other local schools during September. This interactive art experience in partnership with the Rupert Museum included gr. 7 -11 art students from PRG, Calling Academy, Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof and Rhenish Girls’ High School. The programme includes a museum tour and creative art sessions with Lara Kruger, artist-designer and educator. Art produced during the interactive workshops will form part of the exhibition along with selected artworks from the Paul Roos Gymnasium gr.8s’ See and Be Seen third term art assignment.
As a Paul Roos parent and no stranger to the world of art and education as strategic management consultant, Andi Norton’s expertise and contribution to the See and Be Seen exhibition is priceless. She gives her reason for being part: “Personally, it is a joy to know that the money raised will ensure that boys from diverse backgrounds and communities can benefit from the incredible education that this school offers, particularly at such a difficult economic time”.
The See and Be Seen art exhibition and auction, hosted at Paul Roos Gymnasium, includes an art exhibition open to the public from 19 to 30 October (entry to the exhibition is free) and a limited number of tickets will be available for the opening and morning tea on 19 October and cocktail and auction evening on 20 October.
